Policy on Guaranteed Departures
We won’t cancel your trip.
Trip for two – We understand that people are reticent to commit to a one week long tour if they are unsure that the tour will even run. This is especially true for our Australian and Kiwi travellers who are coming from very far away and tend to plan well in advance. That is why we guarantee that all our tours will run as long as we have even just two sign ups.*
We also know that many people look forward to meeting new people and enjoying the camaraderie of travelling with a group of like minded adventurers, which is one of the reasons why you may have signed up for a tour in the first place. Indeed, you might even prefer not to travel on the tour if you were to find out that you were the only two people on the tour. That is why, in the unlikely event that you are the only people booked on the tour, we will give you the option to cancel one month before departure, without any loss of money. In this scenario we would give you a full refund.
How does it work? You sign up, and pay a deposit, and assuming you are travelling with another person the tour departure is automatically guaranteed. If we do not have any other travellers signed up for the tour 30 days before departure we will notify you and give you the option of cancelling the tour, or committing to the tour.
The Catch. – Of course, there had to be a catch! Given that we will loose money running the tour with only two people, we request a modest supplement of between Euro 150 & 200 per person to run the tour for just two people. We call this the “Small Group Supplement”. If someone signs up within 30 days of departure up and we run the tour with more than two people you will of course be refunded your small group supplement. We think this is a considered and fair policy both for you, the traveller, and for Customwalks.
This does not mean that a private tour for two people will only cost between 150 & 200 Euros more per person than one of our regular tours. We will quote you a price for a two person private tour and that price will be dependent on the tour and the date.
* Finally, depending on the tour and the season, we reserve the right to not accept your reservation. Generally, we will keep a tour on our calendar until four weeks before departure. If we have not received any sign ups, we will cancel that date. This is because we have to give the hotels time to sell the rooms that we have been holding. If it is six weeks, or even eight weeks before departure and we get two sign ups, we might refuse your booking, because we may not be confident that we will get more sign ups. We leave the date available because we often get groups of four or six signing up for a tour. If it is three months before departure, we have plenty of time to promote that particular tour and we will probably get other people to sign up. Rest assured, once we accept your booking, we will not cancel the tour.
