Customwalks offers regularly-scheduled guided walking, hiking, and biking tours that anyone can join. We also specialize in designing customized trips for private groups. There is something in the name, after all!

Scheduled departures: We have designed our scheduled departures to be affordable. They are upper-range in terms of accommodation but our regular tours are not luxury tours. We purposely chose not to do high-end luxury tours because we feel that the need to stay in luxury hotels often skews the tour out of shape. We also wanted to “keep it real,” if you know what we mean. Besides, there is no skill, no value added, in finding the most luxurious hotels. The skill and value lie in producing a wonderful travel experience that is rich with unique experiences, beauty, and good times, and which an individual traveling on their own could not do.

Hotels: Our tour accommodations are in charming, comfortable, well-located three and four-star hotels and country inns. All rooms have private en suite WC (except for our tours in the Republic of Georgia, the Algerian Sahara, or our Dolomites "Alta Via" where WC and shower facilities are shared).

Food and Wine: We source local specialities with an emphasis on a healthy, well-balanced diet. We know the best trattorias and bistros, and we often have a special culinary experience on our tours, be it a farm lunch with a Turkish family or a cooking demonstration at one of our restaurants. We take great care in developing menus that provide you with the best that each restaurant has to offer while sampling a cross-section of regional cuisine. The quality of the culinary experiences on our tours are always excellent, and it is a priority for us. As for the wine, it is not by accident that we travel (and many of us live) in some of the great wine-growing regions of the world.

Activity: Our walks and hikes through the countryside are usually between 3 - 5 hours a day (8 – 15 kms). Your luggage is moved by van. Our bike tours regularly entail about 50 – 75 kms of riding with optional extensions for keen riders. All of our bike tours are van supported.

Special Events: Our destinations have so much to offer: cooking, wine, artists and artisans, dancers, musicians, and thousands of years of history, so we complement our walks and rides with special events such as cooking demonstrations, special lunches with locals, winery visits and tastings, performances, and guided visits with local experts to historic towns, castles, and villas, to name but a few.

Custom Tours: There are many advantages to a custom trip as it allows you to go where you want, with whom you want, and when you want. Cost is also an important consideration. With a customized trip you can have Europe’s finest hotels and cuisine or choose a mix of more affordable hotels and B&Bs. Do you prefer gentle strolls or invigorating hikes? It’s your trip, so you set the pace. We help you develop a trip around your schedule and according to your wishes. You decide the type of accommodations, the difficulty level of the walks/rides, and of course where and when you would like to travel. We do everything else for you so you don’t have to worry about anything, before or during your trip.
